Group Admins Tips
Published on May 27, 2021
What is a Group Admin?
- Group Admins are either community administrators in change of managing a given group or group champions who have been "promoted" to become Admin of their group (Linking a new admin account to an existing user is possible)
What to consider when setting up Group Admins?
- Consider reducing access to Back Office Group Modules for your Admins in order to only give them the access they need to manage their groups. This will avoid confusion
- Group and Global Level access rights are awarded person by person. Create a group permissions template for yourself if you want to make sure that you award the same permissions to the same type of group admin
- Groups have limited possibilities for targeted group branding. Decide whether you want to centralize the Group Branding and set up your groups yourself or whether your group admins should be able to create or change these group settings.
What are the tasks and responsibilities of a Group Admin?
- Manage group in a day-to-day setting and contribute to the success of the community.
- Be present in the group. Be available to answer questions and be the main contact (picture and name visible on the Live Feed).
- Animate the group and make sure that new and engaging content is posted regularly.
- Moderate group content. Ensure that the group is a safe space for fruitful exchange. Report any challenges to Community Manager
- A CEO or leader in a given sector matching the group topic may ne be a good Patron or Expert in a given group, but is not a good choice for group admin as she/he will very likely not to be able to invest the right amount of time. Maybe his/her assistant can.
How to introduce Group Admin to their new Role?
- Offer a webinar for new group admins to show them the Back Office of their Group
- Create a Group for your group admins where they can test the group functions (in the front office and why not also in the Back Office) and ask each other and the Community Manager questions
- Empower your Group Admins (watch webinar about this topic)
- Guide your Group Admins in regards to keeping style and branding of their group in order to keep a coherent structure across your platform.
- Formulate clear expectations and clarify the time investment it will require to manage the group (depending on its activity).
- Thank your Group Admins for their engagement and make sure they benefit from advantages within your community (Badges, Access, Event Tickets etc).
